Bird Key Ring

Image
In January my youngest daughter has her birthday, so it's about time to do some preparations. Little presents have to be made that she can treat in Kindergarten, The Dress has to be made (I think we reached an agreement this week involving the fabric and pattern), we need decorations, I saw a really nice Birthday Necklace and I think my littlest wants a crown, too. Besides the Birthday Stuff I also want to make some Christmas Tree Decorations in the next couple of weeks, so busy times ahead again. But..., the first thing is done: the little Presents! I made some cute Bird Key Ring. I found this idea in a little book called  Fimo for All,   but I think it's only available in Dutch. ~*~ More birdnews: my Crochet Turkey was featured by JAQS Studio , by Busy Fingers, Busy Life , The Better Half , 2 Crochet Hooks , Creatig my  Way to Success  and by Bacon Time with the Hungry Hypo ! Green Necklace

Image
You who follow my blog for a while now, know I really love the color green for my clothes (well, after red of course; red is my over all favorite color). Except for a Peacock Necklace I don't have any green jewelry, so when I saw little bags in the local craftstores with assorted beads in different colors, I picked the green and made this necklace! www.betweennapsontheporch.net

Flower Pot Heater

Image
This week I saw this Flower Pot Heater on You Tube, with instructions how to make it and all. Since the weatherpeople here are forecasting a real horror winter in the Netherlands, where I live, (guess we had to be punished after a great, almost everlasting summer) I thought: 'Well, why not give it a try'. I had some Flower Pots left from the summer ánd I always have tea lights somewhere around the house ánd I can always count on my husband for screws, nuts, wash rings and that kind of stuff, so I could start right away. This is how it turned out. Gives a lot of heat, costs about nothing and I think it looks pretty nice, too.  www.betweennapsontheporch.net Want to make your own heater? You can find instructions HERE . ~*~ For the vintage loving dressmakers among us: if you would like to win a vintage Lutterloh Pattern Book, at Sewing, Vintage, Knitting is a great give away going on!  ~*~ Some of my projects were featured this week! Crochet Turkey

Image
I live in the Netherlands and people unfortunately do not celebrate Thanksgiving around here, but I saw this adorable pattern at Craft Passion and because I think turkeys are so ugly they actually become handsome, I just had to make one. Only birds more ugly than turkeys are marabous, of course.  www.betweennapsontheporch.net

Cleaning Hearts

Image
A while ago I found a post on Maria's Self about making ' Toilet Bombs ', made of citric acid, baking soda and essential oils. When you drop them in the toilet (or bath, or sink, or drain) and the little bombs contact the water, they start to fizz and clean and deodorize at the same time. Because I rather spend my time crafting than cleaning, I always love good cleaning tips and wanted to try them my own. The only thing I had to buy was the citric acid. I still had some Lemon Grass Essential Oil from the scrub I made ( see here ) and I think anyone has baking soda. This is the result: www.betweennapsontheporch.net You can find the whole recipe at Maria's Self ! ~*~ Again The Cottage Market has featured me!! They featured my Cat Bracelet ! Thanks again, Andrea !

Baby Beret

Image
One of the blogs I follow is Lacy Crochet from Olga, because I found me a lot of nice crochet patterns there over time. Last week Olga shared a pattern for Baby and Toddler Berets, but because I have babies nor toddlers myself anymore (my girls are 3 and 6), I made one for my friend, who's delivered a baby girl a couple of months ago.  www.betweennapsontheporch.net ~*~ Did you already hear about the great give away at Chronically Vintage ? Pencil Skirt in Tartan

Image
Why not make another Pencil Skirt, I thought, when I saw this great tartan fabric! So here it is!  www.betweennapsontheporch.net Again it's a skirt from Gertie's book . I used the same pattern as I did before, actually. I know, it's about time I make something else from the book, but I love the Pencil Skirt, you can never have enough Pencil Skirts and they're just so easy to make. Promise, next pattern from the book will be something else. There's another book by Gertie on the way and before that one is released, I want to have finished all the patterns in the first book. So, busy times ahead! ~*~ This week I was featured twice by the same blog! Busy Fingers Busy Life featured my Paper Cut Sugar Skull as well as my Sweater of Many Colors ! The Sweater is also featured by The Cottage Market !   Thanks, Barbara!!

Peanut Soup

Image
This weekend I made the most delicious peanut soup, together with my youngest daughter. She loves to help me when I'm cooking and because she isn't a really good eater, I think letting her help me is a great way to get her some appetite. At least you want to taste the food you made your self, isn't it? What you need: * 2 onions * 4 potatoes * 1 clove of garlic *  200 grams of chicken breast * 1 liter chicken bouillon * 200 grams of peanut butter * pepper Peel the onions and potatoes and cut in pieces. Peel and shred the garlic.  Fry onions, potatoes and garlic for two minutes.  Add 1 liter of chicken bouillon and heat until the soup is boiling. Lower the heat and cook for ten minutes or until the potatoes are done. Add peanut butter and stir until all peanut butter is dissolved. Cut the chicken breast in pieces and bake until golden brown. Add the pieces of chicken and add pepper to taste.  Bon Appetit, also on behalf of my little d
